This Easter I have been particularly drawn to the colour Blue. Last Thursday (Maundy Thursday or White Thursday as it is called here in the Netherlands) I bought some Delphiniums, which are standing in a very tall vase in my house. The colour of the flowers is just magnificent, ranging from the cobalt to the paler blues at the top of the stalk.
Blue is not a colour we would usually associate with Easter. The traditional colour of yellow and purple (like the spring crocuses) are generally accepted, but also the white (or clear) has an important connection to Easter as being the pure colour of light and the meaning of the feast of Easter in many religions.
A time of death and re-birth and the knowledge of the Divine connection.
Delphiniums are beautiful flowers and grow mainly in the Northern Hemisphere and some tropical mountains in Africa. Did you know that there are more than 300 species? I didnāt. Colours range from blues, to pinks and purples.
A perennial and member of the family of Ranunculacea. A plant, which is toxic to humans and livestock. The common name is āLarkspurā. The name Delphinium comes from the Latin word for ādolphinā, which refers to the shape of the nectary.
Each flower consists of five petal like sepals, which grow together to form a hollow pocket with a spur at the end, hence the name Larkspur. Within the sepals are the four true petals, small and inconspicuous and usually the same colour as the sepals themselves. Butterflies and bees love the flower for its nectar and are obviously attracted to the intense colour.
Such magnificence and such toxicity!
So I am going to share an excerpt from my book True Colours about the blue and the 50 shades of ā¦.
Blue is a primary colour. Complementary colour Orange.
There has been a lot of discussion over the centuries if blue was actually the first colour of creation. Blue to me is all about peace and communication. Linked to the throat and third eye chakra's it is about being someone who can communicate with peace. A strong feminine energy in the blue. But also very connected to the heart.
Blue can be deep blue or the lightest of blues, the colour of the sky. My own opinion is the lighter the colour the more powerful it is. The reason is that there is more light in the colour and thus the vibration is higher. Colour moves in waves, similar to sound, this is the reason why
I believe that the lighter shades in all colours are more powerful. Within the palette or colour there are many shades of blue. Whether there are actually 50 shades I am not sure!

I just love the words: āThe head and the heart speaking through one voiceā. What a thought for Easter when we reflect on the meaning of this time of year. The connection between the divine and us as humans.
So now I know having reminded myself about all these meanings why I have been so drawn to this colour right now. Blue is all about diving into the depths of the blue in the eyes, into the calmness and peace. Dreams and daring to have them. Time for change, reminding yourself then if you decide to shut one door, another will open almost automatically. Ask yourself this Easter, what do you want to do because Blue will be the instrument to open your new door.
